We all know that Costa Rica is one of the best tropical countries to travel to, most of the people that have visited us will recommend you to come and enjoy the marvels and wonders, the flora and fauna, and besides that, the people.
But, how to travel to Costa Rica? How to know the best location, or even so, the best way to enjoy it. Well, with this little post you will have a hint of what makes Costa Rica great, how to travel in it, and what to choose about it.
So, let’s talk a little about Costa Rica first. Costa Rica has, as a travel destination, lots and lots of biodiversity, on some of the latest posts you will read about Costa Rica having five percent of the world biodiversity, this means, that everywhere you go, you will be able to see awesome flora and fauna. And not only on the land side but also the waterside, Costa Rica has more water land than the land itself, which means that on both of the sides that the country has, the Caribbean and the Pacific, you will find an unimaginable number of activities and things to discover.
To travel in Costa Rica, you will have to know that Costa Rica has seven provinces; San José (Capital city), Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia, Limón, Puntarenas, and Guanacaste. Each one of them has a large variety of activities and each one something impressive to show. For example, in the post Is San Jose City worth a visit?, you will get some of the best locations and activities to see and enjoy in the country’s capital. From churches to some of the greatest museums in the country, such as the Jade Museum, and the most known, national museum, which has lots of our history.
In Cartago, you will find the Irazú volcano, which is one of the most remarkable sites you can visit. The Irazú volcano has several craters, one of which contains Diego de la Haya, a green crater lake of variable depth. At 11,260 feet (3,432 m), the Irazú Volcano is the highest active volcano in the whole country, and as amazing as it may sound, it’s really easy to get there if you travel there from San José, there is a road that goes directly to it, and from the top, if the weather permits, you can see the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean from the very top, however, because of the altitude, sometimes is really hard to get the right weather, that why we recommend you to get there as early as possible.
Guanacaste has some of the most glorious places to visit, the beaches exclusively are some of the best that the country has. The province has a great number of hotels, and resorts, and close to those, and airport! It’s not a long flight (30 minutes) from the Capital, San José, and you will be in just a few minutes over wheels to get to some of the most impressive places on earth.
It’s also good to say that Costa Rica it’s a relatively small country, which is excellent news for travelers. This means that everything is close enough to see it, on one busy day you can go from one coast to another one, and visit a volcano. Unluckily Costa Rica doesn’t have the best streets in the world, that why we recommend going on a tour or if you are an adventurous person, and like the rent a car, we ALWAYS recommend 4X4 car, this way you will be able to get to some of the most secret places, by arriving with and good oil machine.
For the travelers out there, who really like to sense, and get the feeling of being a local, you can always get the public transportation, which is all around the country. From the capital you will be able to get to almost all the corners of the country, some of the times, yes, you may have to take a boat or a taxi, but when that happens, you will get to some of the most beautiful and awesome places that the country has to offer.
One of the casual words that Ticos, or Costar Ricans, recurrently repeat is “Pura Vida”, which literally means “Pure life”. You will feel these words as if they were natural to you, and that’s the way to be! To travel in Costa Rica, what it really takes to do, is relax and enjoy life. Everything is an adventure and every single step is part of the enchant.
